At Muncie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu we offer a selection of classes that will accommodate all ability levels.  We pride ourselves on being able to serve all ages, body types, and skill levels, and strive to continually adapt and improve our instruction to meet the needs of our students.

Kids’ Class

Our kids’ program is open to children ages 6 to 13.  We want your child to have fun, set and achieve goals, build their self-esteem and self-confidence, improve their self discipline, and create healthy habits that will serve them throughout their entire lives.  Kids’ Class will generally mirror the curriculum of our Fundamentals I class with the addition of more takedowns and more work on the self-defense aspects of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  We believe that self defense should be the central focus of any children's martial arts program.  With rising concern about bullying, we want your child to have the confidence to carry themselves in a way that will discourage their peers from making them the target of bullying.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals I

Fundamentals I is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu course intended to ease a beginning student into the practice and culture of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy, as well as reinforce and strengthen the foundation of the more advanced students.  In this class students will learn a series of basic techniques, specifically chosen to demonstrate the central concepts of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  The class will concentrate on the structure of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the goals that we are trying to use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to achieve, whether in a competitive environment or in a self defense scenario.  Upon completing a cycle of the Fundamentals I curriculum students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of each major position, how they relate to one another, submissions from each dominant position, and escapes from each inferior position.  During this class students will also begin to learn the rules for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition, and how to approach training to maximize intended results, whether it be for competition, fitness, self-defense of just for fun.  The overarching goal of the class is to provide students with the clearest picture of what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is, its effectiveness and utility, and its potential for self improvement.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals II

Fundamentals II is designed to expand the knowledge base of the student and further refine the core elements of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  This class will focus on a wider range of techniques than the Fundamentals I class.  In the fundamentals II class the student will learn a variety of new ways to catch there opponent in there favorite submissions, learn how to better defend against common submissions, as well as learn to employ a variety of guard positions.  How to incorporate striking with Jiu Jitsu for the purposes of self defense will be discussed in this class and practiced with the use of simulated strikes (No actual strikes will be thrown).  We will also begin to develop more in depth competition strategies for those students that wish to be competitors in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Advanced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

The Advanced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class is an invitation only class.  Students must first be able to demonstrate an solid understanding the concepts and techniques taught in the Fundamentals I class and be striving to do the same in the fundamentals II class.  Students must show determination and dedication to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to earn the privilege of attending this class.  The objective of this class is to narrow the focus of training from combat against an typical human being to one that is also trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  Students will learn advanced guard positions, and clever ways of setting up attacks that will be difficult for opponents to see coming.

Competition Class

Competition Class is just for competitors.  This class will be open to anyone who has completed ten of the Fundamentals I course.  The competition class will be used primarily for Rolling (BJJ’s way of describing sparring), as well as putting aside a little extra time for drilling.  We will be putting in the work in this class.

Private Lessons

Need to make up a class that you had to miss?  Having difficulty with a particular position?  Maybe you would like to find a technique that hasn’t been covered in class for a while so you can surprise your training partners with it.  Private and semi-private lessons might be the option you are looking for.  Time has been set aside on Fridays for these one on one or small group classes.  Other times may be scheduled depending on availability of instructors.  Private lessons can be highly effective.  These sessions allow for an in depth look at techniques and strategies that are difficult or impossible to fit into the constraints of a group class.  They are the perfect way to make additional progress in your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey.
